Christmas is a time to spend with family, eat festive treats and relax.
However for burglars and opportunist thieves Christmas is prime time and just like the Grinch they’re out to steal your Christmas.
The festive period is a time when we see a rise in thefts and burglaries with 201 burglaries and nine bike thefts taking place in the BR postcode area during December last year*.
With the current restrictions meaning people are more likely to be home thieves have to look at other opportunities to ply their trade and with the increase in home working and people finally upgrading their old laptops and popular presents this year being the Playstation 5 and other small electronics – make sure you follow our simple tips to keep your home secure.
Don’t leave presents in open view
I know, I know, its sounds obvious but presents on view, lit up under a Christmas tree, make an inviting target for those up to no good – consider leaving them safely locked away until the big day – if you must leave presents in cars please keep them locked in the boot out of view.
Lock doors and windows
Remember to securely lock all doors and windows, if you have a timber door with a deadlock please use it – similarly with UPVC and Composite doors ensure you lift the handle and turn the key making sure the door is locked.
